Pastor Son Hyun-bo Accepts Constitutional Court's Ruling on Presidential Impeachment

On April 1, Pastor Son Hyun-bo of Busan's World Church spoke at the 'Save Korea March 1st National Emergency Prayer Meeting' held in Yeouido, Seoul. Following the Constitutional Court's ruling on April 4, which upheld the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, the Protestant organization 'Save Korea,' led by Pastor Son, issued a statement accepting the court's decision. They emphasized that 'violence must not occur under any circumstances.' Initially, Save Korea had planned a large rally on April 5 in Yeouido.
In a phone interview, Pastor Son expressed, 'There are many regrets, but we must accept the ruling. If we do not accept it, we cannot move forward.' He had previously stated in a February interview that while he opposed the impeachment, he would not contest the court's decision if it were upheld. He also mentioned that while no specific opponent has been identified yet, he would take a stand against any anti-church, anti-social, or anti-democratic pledges that may arise during the presidential election.
During a YouTube broadcast, Pastor Son reflected on the situation, saying, 'While there is much to be disappointed about, the citizens and the faithful have become aware of how this country is being led and where the problems lie. The public has awakened and realized the importance of liberal democracy through prayer on the asphalt.' He urged for unity among citizens, regardless of ideology or political stance, to protect the nation and uphold the democratic system.
In the interview, Pastor Son shared his thoughts on the Constitutional Court's ruling, stating, 'There are many regrets. The court also has political aspects, which is disappointing.' He reiterated the importance of accepting the decisions made by state institutions, emphasizing that their prayers for the nation would be answered.
When asked about the cancellation of outdoor gatherings, he explained that they would now encourage prayer within individual churches instead. He noted that the situation leading to the impeachment was largely due to Lee Jae-myung, asserting that the current circumstances stemmed from his actions. With the conclusion of the impeachment process, Pastor Son called for focused prayers as the presidential election approaches.
He also mentioned a 'time for reorganization,' indicating that they would review and evaluate their previous activities on the streets. Regarding future plans, he stated that while no opponent has been determined yet, any pledges perceived as anti-church, anti-biblical, or anti-social would be met with strong opposition.
