MBC Anchor Kim Soo-ji Discusses Emergency Work Conditions Amid Current Events

On January 18, during the 330th episode of MBC's variety show, Jeon Ji-gyeok Chamgyeon Sijeom (전지적 참견 시점), anchor Kim Soo-ji shared insights into her busy life as the current host of MBC's News Desk. When asked by fellow guest Hong Hyun-hee about her hectic schedule, Kim revealed, "It's almost like being on emergency standby. There have been times when I've stayed at the office until late at night after the News Desk ends, as we never know what situation might arise."

In response, Jeon Hyun-moo speculated, "It must have been a 24-hour emergency work system," to which Kim agreed, while the other panelists humorously challenged his understanding of the situation. Jeon added, "I've seen it from the sidelines, watching my seniors do it."

Later, Yang Se-hyung inquired about the challenges Kim faced before becoming MBC's leading anchor. Kim disclosed, "I prepared to be an announcer for about 5 to 6 years and took countless exams. If we count the paperwork, I must have applied over 100 times," which surprised the audience.

The panelists expressed disbelief, asking how she could persist after failing four or five times. Kim explained, "I started receiving signals of passing. As I progressed to higher interview rounds and reached the final stages, I couldn't give up then."

Jeon Hyun-moo added, "Even if you apply to 100 places, the finalists are often the same. You think, 'I lost to that person,' and it motivates you to try again."

In addition to her primary role as an anchor, Kim Soo-ji is also known for her work as a lyricist and writer. She has penned songs for popular idol groups like Red Velvet, NMIXX, and NCT DREAM, and notably sold 2,400 copies of a romance novel during her middle school years, showcasing her diverse talents.
