Kim Sang-hyuk Reveals He Lost 2.3 Billion Won to Fraud

On the April 5 episode of KBS2TV's 'Salim Namja-deul Season 2' (살림하는 남자들 시즌2), Kim Sang-hyuk, a former member of the boy band Click-B, shared his recent struggles, including the shocking news that his mother fell victim to a scam, leading them to live in a modest 15-pyeong (approximately 500 square feet) home.

This marked Kim's first appearance on television in 20 years since he halted his career following a drunk driving incident at the age of 23 in 2005. Reflecting on that time, he expressed, "I felt like I would face severe consequences if I stepped outside. I received a lot of criticism, and being honest about my feelings only led to more backlash."

Kim showed remorse regarding his past actions, stating, "Everything that happened was a result of my own behavior, and I can't blame anyone else. I regretted it deeply at the time. Ultimately, it was my fault."

In a shocking revelation, he disclosed that his mother had been deceived by her boyfriend, who turned out to be a con artist. "It was the first time my mom had a boyfriend, and he scammed her. I even gave her a carnation and visited my father's and grandmother's graves with her," he recounted.

Kim explained that the scam involved taking out loans against their apartments under the pretense of starting a motel business. The money was given to a construction company that never built anything. "My mom couldn't talk about it for two years. She was paying 10 million won in interest every month until one day she broke down in her room," he shared, evoking sympathy from viewers.

As a result, Kim's family had to sell both of their apartments. He estimated that they lost around 2.3 billion won, considering that each apartment was worth about 1 billion won at the time, and they paid over 100 million won in interest annually for three years. The production team revealed that the current market value of the apartments he sold is now around 2.7 billion won, surprising everyone watching the show.
