Han Seok-kyu Narrates Documentary on Jeju Air Tragedy

Actor Han Seok-kyu has lent his voice to a documentary addressing the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred on December 29, 2024. KBS is set to air a special documentary titled 'We Do Not Say Goodbye' on April 7, marking 100 days since the tragedy.

On that fateful day at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, South Korea experienced one of its most devastating aviation accidents, resulting in the loss of 179 lives. Unfortunately, the incident was overshadowed by tumultuous domestic political issues.

This documentary closely follows the families of the victims from the day of the accident up to 100 days later, providing an in-depth look at their current situations, which have largely gone unreported in the media. It emphasizes the need for empathy and solidarity in overcoming such tragedies.

The stories of individuals like Kim Seong-cheol, who lost his daughter and wife, and Na Myeong-rye, who lost her son and future daughter-in-law, highlight that this disaster is not just a personal tragedy but a collective societal issue. The documentary also revisits the recurring theme of safety negligence as a significant cause of such disasters. It aims to illustrate that when society collectively mourns and supports one another, it can pave the way for a better future.

Scenes depicting bereaved families preparing for the Lunar New Year at the Muan Airport shelter showcase the warmth of community solidarity. The documentary will also feature poignant rituals, such as the 49th-day memorial service and the burning of paper clothes, symbolizing the struggle to overcome grief.

Han Seok-kyu's involvement as the narrator is particularly noteworthy. He expressed his willingness to participate, stating that if his voice could provide comfort and strength to the bereaved families, he would gladly contribute. Throughout the dubbing process, he was visibly moved, and after completing the recording, he aimed to convey a heartfelt message of solace to the families.

The production team of 'Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster: 100 Days Later, We Do Not Say Goodbye' hopes that this documentary will ensure the tragedy is never forgotten and foster a societal atmosphere that holds accountability for such incidents.
