Film 'Seungbu' Surpasses 1 Million Viewers in Just 11 Days

The film 'Seungbu' has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 1 million viewers just 11 days after its release. As of the morning of April 5, the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system reported a total of 1,056,921 admissions. The film is expected to continue its box office success this weekend as it aims to reach its break-even point of 1.8 million viewers.

Directed by Kim Hyung-joo, 'Seungbu' is based on the true story of the legendary Go player Cho Hun-hyun (played by Lee Byung-hun) and his disciple Lee Chang-ho (played by Yoo Ah-in), who faced off in the finals of a tournament in 1990.

Originally slated for a Netflix release in 2023, the film's premiere was delayed for four years due to Yoo Ah-in's legal issues related to drug allegations. Despite the setbacks, the film has resonated with audiences, thanks to its high production quality and the powerful performances of its cast.

In celebration of reaching over 1 million viewers, the cast released a gratitude video. Lee Byung-hun, portraying Cho Hun-hyun, expressed his thanks by writing '백만 감사' (One Million Thanks) in calligraphy. Alongside him, fellow cast members Moon Jung-hee, Hyun Bong-sik, Jo Woo-jin, and director Kim Hyung-joo created a visual tribute by arranging Go stones to form the number '100' as a gesture of appreciation to the audience.
