DJ Koo Jun-yup in Mourning After Wife's Passing

DJ Koo Jun-yup, formerly of the group Clon, is reportedly in deep sorrow following the death of his wife, Taiwanese actress Shih Hsiao-yuan (서희원), who passed away at the age of 48. According to various media outlets in the Chinese-speaking world, Koo has withdrawn from public appearances since laying his wife's remains to rest. Reports indicate that he has lost approximately 12 kg and is in a state of constant grief.

After interring Shih's remains at the Jinbao Mountain (금보산) memorial park, Koo has been staying out of the public eye. Shih's brother, Shih Ti-shih (서희제), along with family members, are providing support to Koo during this difficult time. To help alleviate his pain, Shih's family has been inviting Koo for weekly dinners, as he has only one friend in Taiwan and is experiencing profound loneliness without family.

Currently, Koo has halted all professional activities to focus on creating a statue in memory of his late wife. Although the statue is not yet completed, he has reserved a spot at the Jinbao Mountain memorial park for its installation.

Koo and Shih began dating in the late 1990s, separated, and then reunited over 20 years later, marrying in 2022. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they registered their marriage without a ceremony, becoming legally married. Koo has been commuting between Taiwan and South Korea for his work.

Tragically, Shih passed away on February 3 after developing pneumonia complications from the flu during a trip to Japan. Her funeral was held last month at Jinbao Mountain, where Koo personally carried her urn to the burial site.

Initially, the family planned for a tree burial in accordance with Shih's wishes, but after discussions, they decided on a different burial location. Koo expressed a desire for an independent space where he could visit his beloved wife whenever he wished.
