New KBS1 Drama 'Catch the Big Luck' Explores Complex Friendships and Financial Struggles

The upcoming KBS1 daily drama 'Catch the Big Luck' (대운을 잡아라), set to premiere on April 14 at 8:30 PM, promises an intriguing narrative centered around three friends with differing financial situations: the wealthy, the struggling, and the aspirational. The story follows the intertwined lives of the building owner Son Chang-min (played by 한무철), his childhood friend and current tenant Sun Woo-jae-deok (played by 김대식), and Park Sang-myeon (played by 최규태), as they navigate the complexities of wealth and friendship.

Once inseparable during their high school days at Cheonhago High School, the trio shared a bond so strong that they would even split a single piece of bread. Their friendship blossomed when Jae-deok and Gyu-tae defended Chang-min from local bullies. However, as they approach their sixties, their dynamics have drastically shifted. Chang-min has become a successful, arrogant landlord, while Jae-deok and Gyu-tae find themselves as his tenants.

Chang-min, who owns multiple properties, is portrayed as a ruthless businessman, prioritizing money over relationships. He even chooses a birthday gift for his wife, Mi-ja (played by 이아현), from a donation bin, showcasing his stinginess. Meanwhile, Jae-deok and his partner Hye-sook (played by 오영실) face the threat of closing their popular chicken restaurant due to Chang-min's sudden increase in rent, leaving Jae-deok desperate as he contemplates leaving the building filled with memories of his father.

As Jae-deok attempts to appeal to Chang-min by reminiscing about their past friendship, he is met with indifference. Feeling humiliated and rejected, he spirals into despair. Hye-sook, seeking help, approaches Mi-ja, who is also a long-time friend. In a twist of fate, a drunken Chang-min asks Jae-deok for a ride home, leading to a pivotal moment when Jae-deok drives him while blindfolded. Chang-min hands him a mysterious piece of paper instead of payment, which is said to have significant implications for their futures. This encounter raises questions about the choices Jae-deok will make when faced with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

'Catch the Big Luck' is set to be a fresh take on family dramas, following 'Let's Get Married!' and is highly anticipated by viewers.
