Lee Seung-gi Wins Legal Battle Against Former Agency Hook Entertainment

On April 4, 2025, Lee Seung-gi (이승기), the versatile entertainer, emerged victorious in his legal dispute against his former agency, Hook Entertainment (후크엔터테인먼트). The Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 20, presided over by Judge Lee Se-ra (이세라), ruled that Hook must pay Lee approximately 587 million KRW.
Lee had previously accused Hook of failing to properly settle his music revenue for 18 years since his debut, leading him to send a formal notice and terminate his exclusive contract in 2022. In response, Hook claimed to have sent Lee 5.4 billion KRW in unpaid settlements and late interest, while also asserting that they overpaid him for advertising activities, thus filing a lawsuit to confirm the non-existence of debt, seeking to reclaim 900 million KRW.
In turn, Lee's legal team countered that the agreed settlements were not honored, presenting evidence that the total unpaid amount actually reached 9.6 billion KRW, indicating that he should receive an additional 3 billion KRW from Hook. Furthermore, Lee announced that he would donate 5 billion KRW from the 5.4 billion KRW received, after deducting legal fees, and has filed a complaint against former Hook CEO Kwon Jin-young (권진영) for violations related to economic crimes, including embezzlement and fraud.
Lee expressed concern for younger artists facing similar unfair treatment, urging for better oversight to prevent them from suffering due to settlement issues.
