Lee Dong Wook Faces Backlash After Comment on Former President's Impeachment

On April 5, actor Lee Dong Wook sparked controversy on social media following a message he posted after the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol. Shortly after the Constitutional Court unanimously ruled to uphold the impeachment, Lee expressed his relief, stating, "Ah, spring has finally come," and added, "Winter was too long." Although he did not specify whom he was referring to, the context made it clear that he was commenting on the political situation surrounding Yoon's removal.

Lee also shared the hit song "Into the New World" by Girls' Generation, which has become an anthem for protests against Yoon's presidency. He remarked, "It feels like spring is one step closer," which resonated positively with many fans.

However, his comments drew harsh criticism from far-right netizens who support Yoon. They flooded his social media with derogatory remarks, including personal attacks and dismissive comments about his background and the public's divided opinion on Yoon's presidency.

In response to the backlash, supporters of Lee initiated a campaign to post positive comments in his defense. This situation has highlighted the polarized political climate in South Korea, with Lee's social media becoming a battleground for opposing views.

Lee Dong Wook, who debuted in 1999 with the MBC drama Best Theater, is known for his roles in popular series such as My Girl, Goblin, and Tale of Gumiho. He is currently starring in the new tvN drama Divorce Insurance, which premiered on March 31, and has also appeared on the web variety show hosted by Yoo Jae-suk, Pingkeugo, showcasing his charm and humor.
