In a significant historical revelation, over 60 letters exchanged between Horace Grant Underwood (1859–1916), a missionary who founded Yonsei University's predecessor, Yeonhui College, and his son, Horace Horton Underwood, have been made public for the first time. These letters, written during the year before Underwood's passing, reflect his aspirations for establishing a university in Korea that would match American standards. The correspondence, which includes letters exchanged with Elmer Ellsworth Brown, the president of New York University, spans 14 years and was discovered last year in the NYU archives. 

Underwood's letters, totaling 98 pages, express his commitment to advancing higher education in Korea, emphasizing the need for industrial education and the establishment of a business school. He argued for a shift in cultural attitudes towards commerce, which had been historically undervalued in Korea. 

Arriving in Korea in 1885, Underwood dedicated over 30 years to missionary work, establishing orphanages and churches, and publishing the first Korean-English and English-Korean dictionaries. In 1915, he founded the Chosun Christian College (the precursor to Yeonhui College) in Seoul, where he initiated the first business program in a Korean university. Despite opposition from fellow missionaries who favored establishing schools in Pyongyang, Underwood's vision prevailed, leading to the selection of Seoul as the site for the university. 

In a letter dated May 1915, Underwood informed Brown of the commencement of regular university operations in Seoul and requested updated educational materials from NYU. He stressed the importance of defining educational progress and the necessity of various academic departments, including English literature, philosophy, and the sciences. 

In letters written in September and October 1915, he highlighted the critical need for business education in Korea and the establishment of facilities for industrial training. He envisioned students learning practical skills such as brick-making and woodworking, emphasizing the importance of preparing future leaders in Korea. 

Underwood's deep affection for Korea is evident in his letters, where he expressed pride in his son, who quickly learned the Korean language and chose to forgo his studies at NYU to help manage Yeonhui College. Underwood passed away in October 1916, but his legacy continued through his son, who carried on his educational mission. 

The letters, preserved in excellent condition thanks to Brown's practice of keeping copies, will be published in a book on April 10, coinciding with the 140th anniversary of Yonsei University.

Many participants voiced disbelief over the Constitutional Court's decision. Namgung Il, a 54-year-old from Namdong-gu, Incheon, described his feelings as 'devastating,' stating that the court seemed to favor the National Assembly's perspective over that of the president. He noted that the president had adequately explained the rationale for military deployment, which he felt was not properly acknowledged.

Choi Hong-kyu, an 84-year-old resident of Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, who has attended protests since the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye, shared his distress, saying, 'How can they impeach a president who stood up for this country and its people?'

Another protester, 66-year-old Myung Mo from Eunpyeong-gu, remarked that the gloomy weather reflected the sentiments of the conservative faction who feel robbed of their president. He stated, 'I cannot accept this politically motivated fraudulent impeachment. Even though the unanimous ruling has left us feeling powerless, we cannot simply kneel and accept it.'

Incheon resident Lee Mo, 39, who wore multiple 'Stop the steal' badges, expressed surprise at the unanimous ruling, saying, 'I expected the Constitutional Court to provide stability, but I was shocked by the outcome. I also feel resentment towards the People Power Party for preparing for an early election despite the fraudulent impeachment.' He urged that public opinion should not overshadow their voices.

While nearly 20,000 citizens participated in the rally, the turnout was lower than previous gatherings. A rally held on March 29 in Gwanghwamun attracted around 30,000 attendees, while another event in Yeouido drew approximately 9,600 participants. The Save Korea group canceled their planned rally on April 5 following the Constitutional Court's decision regarding Yoon's impeachment.

In a recent ruling, South Korea's Supreme Court determined that the statute of limitations (10 years) for copyright claims regarding unauthorized use of music in online games must be calculated on a daily basis from the date the music was used. 한빛소프트는 2006년에 제3자 개발자에게 게임 제작을 의뢰했으며, 이 과정에서 개발자는 특정 장면에서 체스키의 음악을 허가 없이 사용했다. 이 게임은 2008년 12월에 출시되었고, 한빛소프트는 이후 제3자 개발자를 흡수했다.

체스키는 게임 출시 후 음악의 무단 사용에 대해 우려를 제기했지만, 한빛소프트가 2016년 5월에 게임에서 음악을 제거할 때까지는 아무 조치를 취하지 않았다. 2021년, 체스키는 한빛소프트가 저작권 침해로 얻은 4천만 원의 이익 반환을 요구하는 소송을 제기했다.

1심은 한빛소프트의 음악 무단 사용을 인정하고 회사에 체스키에게 2천5백만 원을 반환하라고 명령했다. 법원은 부당이득의 상태가 2016년 5월 음악이 제거될 때까지 계속되었으며, 소송이 10년 소멸시효 내에 제기되었기 때문에 청구가 유효하다고 판결했다. 항소 법원은 이 결정을 유지했다.

그러나 대법원은 청구의 성립 시점과 소멸시효 계산에 대해 다른 입장을 취했다. 대법원은 한빛소프트가 2008년 12월 게임 출시부터 2016년 5월 음악 제거까지 무단 사용으로 지속적으로 이익을 얻었다고 밝혔다. 따라서 부당이득 청구는 그 기간 동안 매일 성립되었으며, 소멸시효도 별도로 진행될 것이라고 설명했다.

대법원은 이미 10년 소멸시효를 초과한 청구 부분에 대해 하급 법원의 판결을 뒤집을 근거가 있다고 언급하며, 해당 부분을 제외한 부당이득 금액을 재계산하라고 하급 법원에 지시했다.
