Human Drama Film 'Victory' Tops Box Office for Two Consecutive Weeks

The human drama film 'Victory' (승부), directed by Kim Hyung-joo and produced by Film Company Wolgwang, has maintained its position at the top of the weekend box office for two weeks in a row. Meanwhile, the black comedy film 'Lobby' (로비), directed by Ha Jung-woo and produced by Workhouse Company and Film Momentum, has secured the second spot, leading a successful box office duo.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, 'Victory' attracted 427,008 viewers from April 4 to 6, bringing its total audience count to 1,351,652. Following closely, 'Lobby' drew in 101,520 viewers, with a cumulative total of 165,313.

'Victory' tells the story of South Korea's legendary Go player Cho Hun-hyun, who, after losing a match against his disciple, seeks to reclaim his status as a champion driven by his innate competitive spirit. The film features a star-studded cast including Lee Byung-hun, Yoo Ah-in, Ko Chang-seok, Hyun Bong-sik, Moon Jung-hee, and Kim Kang-hoon, with Kim Hyung-joo at the helm.

The film's ability to draw over 420,000 viewers over the weekend demonstrates its strong appeal, mirroring its opening weekend performance of 544,252 viewers. This consistent audience turnout indicates that 'Victory' is on the verge of surpassing 1.5 million viewers, with expectations to continue its successful run until it reaches the break-even point of 1.8 million.

On the other hand, 'Lobby' follows the story of a startup CEO who, unfamiliar with lobbying, embarks on his first lobbying golf outing to secure a 4 trillion won national project. The film stars Ha Jung-woo, Kim Ui-sung, Kang Hae-rim, Lee Dong-hwi, Park Byeong-eun, Kang Mal-geum, Choi Si-won, Cha Joo-young, Park Hae-soo, and Kwak Sun-young, marking Ha Jung-woo's third directorial effort following 'Roller Coaster' and 'Huh Sam-kwan'.

Released on April 2, 'Lobby' has been praised as a 'strange and funny crazy movie.' With Ha Jung-woo's unique humor and relatable themes for anyone who has experienced social life, the film showcases the impressive performances of its cast, creating a strangely addictive viewing experience.

Celebrities from various age groups, including Lee Je-hoon, Na Young-seok PD, Park Joong-hoon, and Kim Dong-wook, expressed their satisfaction during a VIP screening, calling it a film for those wanting to laugh after a long time and a movie that will invigorate theaters. As it enters its second week, 'Lobby' is expected to continue generating positive word-of-mouth.
