Comedian Park Sung-kwang's Wife Lee Sol-i Opens Up About Cancer Battle

Lee Sol-i, the wife of comedian Park Sung-kwang, recently shared her struggles with cancer during her appearance on SBS's 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 (동상이몽2-너는 내 운명)' on April 2. She revealed the emotional toll of facing malicious comments and misinformation online.

Currently battling female cancer, Lee recounted, "After resigning from my job, I was naturally preparing for a child, but just five months later, I was diagnosed with cancer. Due to the nature of female cancer, I was unable to conceive, and I felt immense guilt for not being able to protect my health, which made me deeply sorry to my parents and in-laws. The prognosis was grim, and I faced significant despair, not knowing if I would live for another year or three."

She continued, "I underwent six months of surgery and cytotoxic chemotherapy, which required me to be cautious about going out. I couldn't eat, experienced daily vomiting, lost weight, and my skin deteriorated. I lost my hair and spent a lot of time in the emergency room. It was an incredibly tough period, and I am still on medication and undergoing treatment. This is why I have not been able to have children, and that situation continues."

Lee explained her decision to speak out about her condition, stating, "I was deeply hurt by being portrayed as a 'luxurious woman,' 'a woman who doesn't want children,' and 'a woman who uses her husband like an ATM' in sensational articles and distorted views."

Her courageous revelation has garnered widespread support. Lee expressed, "I sometimes wonder if I was too absorbed in my own feelings, and I feel sorry for my husband and family. I worry that my struggles might cast a shadow over my husband, who finds joy in making people laugh. There have been misleading reports suggesting I might not have long to live, but that is not true."

Reflecting on the day she received her diagnosis, Lee said, "I can never forget that day. After experiencing pain that felt like death, I realized that death is closer than we think and is not just someone else's issue. Life is a blessing, a gift, and fleeting. Now, if there are people I want to see, I make sure to see them; if there are words I want to say, I say them; and if there are feelings I want to express, I express them. My motto has become 'a life with fewer regrets.'"

Additionally, Lee shared a glimpse of her life during treatment, posting a photo of neatly arranged cherry tomatoes, broccoli, and bell peppers. She also revealed a picture of her back, showing her hair growing back after shaving it during chemotherapy, humorously noting, "My husband took this picture when my hair started to grow back after chemotherapy, and it looked like an acorn."

Park Sung-kwang and Lee Sol-i tied the knot on August 15, 2020, and have shared their daily lives on 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2.'
