Nurse Under Investigation for Child Abuse in Daegu Hospital Incident
A nurse working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a major hospital in Daegu is under police investigation for posting inappropriate content on social media. The nurse, identified as A, allegedly shared a photo of a hospitalized infant on Instagram with a caption expressing a desire to drop the baby, stating '낙상 마렵다' (I feel like dropping it). Additionally, A is accused of handling the infant without wearing sterile gloves, which is a violation of infection control protocols essential in the NICU, where vulnerable newborns receive care.
The Daegu Police Agency announced on April 3 that they have filed charges against Nurse A and the hospital director, B, for suspected child abuse. This action follows a formal complaint submitted by the father of the affected child.
In light of the incident, Nurse A has reportedly resigned from her position. The hospital has removed her from duty and plans to take disciplinary action based on the outcome of the investigation. The Korean Nurses Association has expressed concern over the incident, stating that it undermines public trust in the nursing profession and pledging to cooperate with authorities for appropriate measures.
Furthermore, the father of the victim has informed the police that he has received tips suggesting there may be additional victims involved with the same nurse. The police are currently investigating the full circumstances of the case and whether there are more affected children.
