NewJeans' Parents Deny Rumors of Division Among Members

On April 4, the parents of the K-pop group NewJeans took to social media to refute claims that there is a division among the members' families. In a lengthy statement, they asserted, "The rumors of a split among the members' parents are completely unfounded."
The parents emphasized that the five members share a deep trust and unity, stating, "The members are all committed to the same position, and we, as their parents, fully respect and support their decisions." They also addressed rumors surrounding member Haerin, clarifying that both she and her parents are in complete agreement and that any speculation regarding their family matters is false.
They requested that the public refrain from making assumptions about family issues, particularly regarding the legal adjustments made for minor children, which pertain to another member's family. The parents reiterated that all families are united in their support for their children.
Additionally, they expressed concern over the misuse of personal family matters in the ongoing legal disputes with their agency, Ador. NewJeans has been seeking to terminate their contract with Ador since November 2024, citing breaches of trust. They have even adopted the name 'NJZ' for independent activities, although a recent court ruling has temporarily halted these efforts.
The parents concluded by stating that the issue of parental rights is a private family matter and should not be maliciously linked to the legal disputes with Ador. They expressed their inability to trust the agency, which has not demonstrated reliability in the past.
The full statement from NewJeans' parents is as follows:
"Hello, we are the parents of the members. We want to clarify that the reports about a division among the members' parents are entirely false. This statement is made to correct misunderstandings. All five members have a firm stance that they cannot return to HYBE, a decision made after thorough discussions with their families. We agreed that legal action would only proceed if all five members consented, which shows their deep trust and unity.
Despite the current challenges, the members continue to meet frequently and maintain their strong friendship. We, as parents, have also been communicating more regularly during this difficult time, which has strengthened our relationships. It is disheartening and regrettable to see baseless rumors about family divisions and member departures being reported.
We felt there was no need to respond to what seemed like an attempt to incite division. However, as specific members' names have been mentioned, we felt it necessary to clarify. The rumors regarding Haerin are completely untrue. She and her parents are in full agreement, and any speculation about their family matters is also false. The adjustments made regarding parental rights for minor children pertain to another member's family, and we ask that speculation about this family matter be avoided as well.
We assure you that all families respect and support their children. Please be mindful of the legal implications surrounding family matters, as outlined in the Family Litigation Act. We hope that personal family issues will not be maliciously exploited in connection with the legal disputes with Ador.
As parents, we cannot send our children back to a company that exploits their family matters for media play. Ador and HYBE have never shown us trust, and that has not changed.
Thank you."
