Lee Hae-young Sacrifices Himself to Save Son Seo Dong-joo in 'Treasure Island'

In the latest episode of SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'Treasure Island' (보물섬), aired on April 4, Lee Hae-young (이해영) meets his end while saving his son Seo Dong-joo (박형식) after discovering that he is his biological child.

Seo Dong-joo presents Lee Hae-young with a paternity test result showing a 99.9% probability of being his son. In response, Lee Hae-young coldly tells him to leave. Seo Dong-joo reflects on how he had been contemplating how to respond to Lee Hae-young's immediate plea for forgiveness, but finds relief in the confrontation.

Lee Hae-young recalls a past moment when Seo Dong-joo was with Ye Soon-ho (주상욱) and expresses regret that he did not realize Seo Dong-joo was his son before attempting to kill him, stating that even if he had known, he would have still gone through with it. He admits to having killed a child before and insists that he would not have stopped shooting.

Seo Dong-joo retorts that it would have been better if Lee Hae-young had known he was his son before killing him, suggesting that he should seek forgiveness instead. He emphasizes that the only thing Lee Hae-young can do now is to ask for forgiveness, particularly from his deceased mother and Ye Soon-ho, even though he himself will not forgive him.

Lee Hae-young struggles with how to apologize, recounting the moment he shot his son three times, with the last shot fired just as Seo Dong-joo was about to reveal his identity. Seo Dong-joo insists that Lee Hae-young must find his own path to redemption and expresses concern for his brother, Tae-yoon, fearing that Lee Hae-young might sacrifice himself.

In a dramatic turn, Lee Hae-young later approaches Ye Jang-seon (염장선) to declare his intention to take Seo Dong-joo's hand. Ye Jang-seon informs Cha Gang-cheon (차강천) about the father-son relationship, leading to a tense moment when Cha Gang-cheon invites both Lee Hae-young and Seo Dong-joo for drinks, only for Jo Yang-chun (조양춘) to interrupt. Ultimately, Lee Hae-young sacrifices himself to save Seo Dong-joo.
