JK Kim Dong-wook Takes a Jab at Lee Dong-wook Following Presidential Impeachment
On April 4, singer JK Kim Dong-wook made headlines by targeting actor Lee Dong-wook in a comment on a post that captured an article about Lee. The article discussed Lee's remarks in an official fan community after the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, where he expressed relief that spring had finally arrived, referencing Girls' Generation's song 'Into the New World.'
In response, JK Kim Dong-wook sarcastically commented, "What does he know? It's a common name, but he's the first person to make me embarrassed to share it."
JK Kim Dong-wook has been a vocal supporter of Yoon Suk-yeol and has actively opposed the impeachment. However, after the Constitutional Court unanimously decided to impeach Yoon on April 4, he expressed his anger, stating, "I used to think that 2060 would be the year South Korea collapses, but I never expected it to happen so soon. I had hoped for change, but now I believe it could happen even faster than the world expects."
He further expressed his frustration, saying, "What should we do now, Dong-wook? What can we ask? We just keep fighting until things change. As a musician, I need to face some oppression to create truly authentic music, right?"
Following Lee Dong-wook's indirect expression of joy over the impeachment, JK Kim Dong-wook's harsh comments drew criticism from netizens, who urged him to refrain from interfering in another country's politics.
Additionally, JK Kim Dong-wook is a Canadian citizen of Korean descent. Born in Korea and raised in Seoul, he immigrated to Canada during high school and obtained citizenship there. As a foreign national, he is exempt from military service and does not have voting rights in Korea. In January, he was reported for potentially violating Article 17 of the Immigration Control Act, which prohibits foreign residents in Korea from engaging in political activities.
