The day has arrived for the impeachment ruling of President Yoon Seok-yeol, with major broadcasting networks adjusting their schedules to accommodate special news coverage. The Constitutional Court is set to announce its decision on the impeachment trial at 11 AM on April 4, 2025.
If the court upholds the impeachment motion, President Yoon will be removed from office; if dismissed, he will immediately return to his duties. Notably, President Yoon has opted not to attend the ruling. In anticipation of potential unrest following the announcement, police have declared a nationwide emergency response, mobilizing all available forces to maintain order.
This ruling comes 111 days after the National Assembly approved the impeachment motion on December 14, 2024. The Constitutional Court has held two preparatory sessions and eleven hearings since then, with the first hearing taking place on December 22, 2024, and the final arguments on February 25, 2025.
As the nation awaits the court's decision, broadcasting companies are in a state of heightened alert. Major networks are prioritizing news specials to cover the political landscape following the ruling, leading to the cancellation of various entertainment programs and dramas.
MBC has postponed the premiere of its new Friday-Saturday drama, Bunny and Brothers (바니와 오빠들), which follows the romantic escapades of Bunny as she navigates relationships with attractive men after a failed first love. The only program from MBC that will air is I Live Alone (나 혼자 산다), while all others will be replaced by news coverage.
KBS will focus on the political situation post-impeachment on its 1TV channel, resulting in the cancellation of the daily drama Let's Get Married (결혼하자 맹꽁아). However, KBS's 2TV will continue to air Music Bank (뮤직뱅크), Cinderella Game (신데렐라 게임), Newly Released Menu Restaurant (신상출시 편스토랑), and The Seasons - Park Bo-gum's Cantabile (더 시즌즈-박보검의 칸타빌레).
SBS has also canceled Curious Story Y (궁금한 이야기 Y) in favor of news specials, but the 13th episode of the drama Treasure Island (보물섬) will still air at 9:50 PM. This drama features Seo Dong-joo (박형식) as he seeks revenge against a powerful enemy after hacking a political slush fund worth 2 trillion won.
Additionally, Channel A has canceled My Precious Child (금쪽같은 내 새끼) and Heart Pairing (하트 페어링) for news coverage, while MBN will continue to air Plan JH (전현무계획2) without any changes to its schedule.
