Yum Hye-ran Joins Star-Studded Cast of 'The Hole' Directed by Kim Ji-woon

Actress Yum Hye-ran is receiving a wave of attention from renowned directors in the film industry. According to reports on November 21, Yum is set to star in 'The Hole', a new film directed by Kim Ji-woon, based on the novel 'The Hole' by author Pyeon Hye-young.
'The Hole' tells the story of a successful university professor in his 40s who faces shocking truths after losing his wife in a sudden accident. The original novel has previously won the Shirley Jackson Award in the long fiction category.
It has also been revealed that Hollywood actor Theo James, known for his roles in 'The White Lotus' and 'The Gentleman: The Series', along with Jung Ho-yeon, a SAG Award winner and Emmy nominee for 'Squid Game', will portray a couple in the film. With Yum Hye-ran's acclaimed acting skills, her addition to the cast is expected to enhance the film's depth.
Yum previously made a special appearance in Kim Ji-woon's film 'The Spider's Nest', and this collaboration marks her return to work with the director as she makes her foray into Hollywood.
Notably, Yum has been selected by some of Korea's most prominent directors. The story of how Bong Joon-ho cast her in his iconic film 'Memories of Murder' after being impressed by her performance in the 2003 play 'This Is' is well-known. In 'Memories of Murder', she convincingly portrayed the mother of the last victim in the film.
Additionally, she has announced her participation in Park Chan-wook's upcoming film 'There’s No Way', which follows the story of a company employee, Yoo Man-soo, who, after being unexpectedly fired, prepares for a personal battle to protect his family and the home he worked hard to acquire. In this film, Yum plays the role of Ara, the wife of Gu Beom-mo, a veteran in the paper industry who is now seeking employment, alongside actor Lee Sung-min.
Yum Hye-ran is also a favorite among top writers in the industry. She has collaborated multiple times with renowned screenwriters such as Noh Hee-kyung, known for 'Dear My Friends' and 'The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World', Kim Eun-sook, who wrote 'Goblin' and 'The Glory', and Lim Sang-chun, known for 'When the Camellia Blooms' and 'Socks That Were Too Tight'.
Since her debut in the 2004 play 'The Magician and the Accordion', Yum has made a significant mark on television with her role in 'Dear My Friends' in 2016. She has portrayed a variety of characters in popular dramas such as 'Goblin', 'Prison Playbook', 'The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World', 'Lawless Lawyer', 'Life', 'When the Camellia Blooms', 'The Glory', 'Mask Girl', and 'Amazing Rumor'.
On the big screen, she has showcased her talent in films like 'I Can Speak', 'Witness', 'Girl Cops', 'Boys', 'Woongnam', 'Citizen Deok-hee', and 'Amazon Hwalmyungsoo', establishing herself as a leading actress who seamlessly transitions between television and film. Through works like 'The Glory' and 'Mask Girl', she has left a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.
