YouTuber Jab Sik Gongryong Apologizes and Deletes Accounts Amid Controversy

Jab Sik Gongryong (잡식공룡), a popular food YouTuber with 170,000 subscribers, has issued an apology and deleted his social media accounts following a controversy regarding derogatory comments about Jeolla Province. Known for his short-form content featuring food reviews while wearing a dinosaur costume, he sparked outrage after posting a story on Instagram on June 5 that included voting statistics from the 21st presidential election, highlighting that President Lee Jae-myung (이재명) received 89.04% of the votes in a specific area of Jeolla.
In his post, he shared comments from netizens that included phrases like 'Jeolla is really messed up' and 'We should really divide the country. We don't need to live together. Just travel or get a visa to go there,' adding a laughing emoji. When questioned by another user about his derogatory remarks towards Jeolla, he responded dismissively, asking, 'Are you from Jeolla? Did I hit a nerve?'
As the backlash intensified, Jab Sik Gongryong acknowledged the insensitivity of his post, stating, 'There were expressions that belittled the region and politically biased content in what I posted. I sincerely apologize for causing discomfort to many.' He also shared a photo of a donation of 5 million won to the May 18 Memorial Foundation, emphasizing that 'donating does not erase my mistakes.'
Despite his apology, criticism continued, leading him to ultimately delete his YouTube channel and Instagram account.
