YouTuber 우자까 Shares Her Journey After Severe Brain Injury

YouTuber 우자까 (Woo Eun-bin) recently opened up about her life following a tragic accident during a speaking engagement. On the December 8 episode of MBC's 'Heartfelt Talks: Speakers' (강연자들), she delivered an emotional lecture detailing her experience.

우자까, who previously worked as a flight attendant and is now a content creator, recounted the incident that occurred on January 27, 2024. "I was on my way to give a talk, just like today, when I fell backward and hit my head hard against the pavement, losing all memory of that day," she explained.

The impact caused severe brain injuries, including a brain hemorrhage and swelling. "The doctors told my family that 95% of my left brain was damaged, and blood was also leaking into my left ear and frontal lobe, affecting my olfactory and visual nerve cells. They said my chances of survival were only 20-30%. Even if I survived, I would likely face language, cognitive, and hearing disabilities, making it impossible to live a normal life as a woman in my 30s," she shared, leaving the audience in shock.

우자까 revealed that her family prayed for her survival. After a week, she regained consciousness but struggled to recognize her mother and husband, only able to identify her father. She underwent a craniotomy, where two-fifths of her left skull was removed.

Reflecting on her emotional state during recovery, she said, "It felt truly bleak and hopeless. How could this happen to me? I could even see my brain moving when I swallowed. It felt like someone was stabbing my head with a knife and hammering it. I also experienced language difficulties and couldn't remember words. The doctors told my family to think of me as a child again. At 34, I had to relearn everything like a toddler."

Despite the challenges, 우자까 credited her relentless training and family support for her recovery. She encouraged others facing pain and depression to never give up. "Look at me now, speaking in front of you. Don’t be ashamed or hide from yourself. I will continue to show you my progress," she concluded, delivering a powerful message of hope and resilience.
