YouTuber 윰댕 Reveals She Underwent Hysterectomy Surgery

YouTuber 윰댕 (40, real name 이채원), who has 610,000 subscribers, recently shared that she underwent a hysterectomy. On June 5, she took to Instagram to update her followers, stating, "I know I've been quiet lately. In fact, I had a hysterectomy in May."

윰댕 had been aware of her uterine fibroids and adenomyosis (a condition where the uterus grows larger) but initially thought that enduring the pain was manageable, leading her to postpone treatment. However, as various symptoms worsened, she decided to proceed with surgery.

She explained, "My menstrual cycle had extended to nearly 20 days with heavy bleeding, which caused severe anemia. The fibroid grew to 8 cm, pressing against my bladder and transplanted kidney, making daily life unbearable."

She also mentioned, "I heard that if fibroids grow, they could turn into cancer. The first hospital diagnosed me with suspected cancer."

Due to her history of kidney transplant surgery, she underwent an open surgery instead of a simpler robotic procedure.

"I’ve learned that the sooner you walk, the faster you recover, so I started walking slowly in the hallway from the day of the surgery," she said. "People thought my recovery would be slower because of my transplant and open surgery, but I received compliments that I was recovering three times faster than average."

Reflecting on her experience, she added, "I had many worries, but now that it’s done, I feel truly relieved."

Finally, she urged others, saying, "It’s foolish to delay your health because of being busy or thinking the timing isn’t right. If you’re facing similar concerns, please don’t ignore the signals your body is sending and make sure to get checked at a hospital."

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that develop in the muscle layer of the uterus and are very common among women, affecting 40-50% of women over the age of 35. Symptoms can include increased menstrual flow, pelvic pain, and frequent urination, although some may not experience any symptoms. Asymptomatic fibroids can be monitored, but larger or symptomatic fibroids may require medical or surgical treatment.

윰댕 has a son from her first marriage but divorced. She married fellow YouTuber 대도서관 in 2015, but they divorced in 2023.
