Yoon Jong-shin Returns to Radio Star After Six Years, Shares Insights on His Journey

Yoon Jong-shin made a much-anticipated return to MBC's Radio Star (라디오스타) on January 22, after a six-year hiatus, revealing the reasons behind his departure. The episode featured a special segment titled 'Oh Singer Game,' which included veteran singer Yoon Jong-shin, comedian Kim Young-chul, 'Prince of Trot' Son Tae-jin, and Choi Sang-yeob, the vocalist of the emerging band Lucy.
During the show, Yoon shared his experiences since leaving Radio Star for the 'Ibangin Project' (이방인 프로젝트). He showcased his playful chemistry with MC Kim Gu-ra, leading to many humorous moments. Yoon expressed confidence in his songwriting abilities, suggesting he could write up to 1,000 songs, while also discussing the challenges he faces as a lyricist and composer. He humorously recounted an incident where his unique interpretation of a song led to singer Lee Hyori asking, "Oppa, what is this?"
To stay connected with younger audiences, Yoon mentioned that he engages with Chat GPT and searches for activities people do after breakups, alongside regularly watching dramas and movies for inspiration. He highlighted his most successful songs, 'Rebirth' (환생) and 'Like It' (좋니), which have significantly contributed to his financial success over the past 30 years. He also proudly noted that he has consistently produced 'Monthly Yoon Jong-shin' (월간 윤종신) without fail for 15 years since its inception in 2010.
Yoon reflected on how the 'Ibangin Project' allowed him to experience life abroad, stating that he had never handled travel logistics himself before. He shared a poignant moment from filming in Berlin, where he experienced shortness of breath for the first time, allowing him to empathize with guests on Radio Star who had discussed their struggles with panic disorders.
He introduced Kim Young-chul, Son Tae-jin, and Choi Sang-yeob as the shining stars of his agency, Mystic Story (미스틱스토리). The natural banter between Yoon and Kim Gu-ra led to a relaxed atmosphere, prompting other MCs and guests to join in the fun, resulting in a lively 'content war' on the show.
According to Nielsen Korea, the episode achieved a viewership rating of 3.9% in the metropolitan area, making it the top show in its time slot. The highlight of the episode was Son Tae-jin, who captivated viewers with his unique rendition of 'O Sole Mio' in a trot style, boosting the ratings to 4.7%.
