Yook Sungjae Reveals His Fishing Heritage on 'Chef Heo Youngman’s Dining Table'

In a surprising revelation, Yook Sungjae, known for his love of fishing, referred to himself as a 'fishing gold spoon' during the May 25 episode of TV CHOSUN's 'Chef Heo Youngman’s Dining Table' (식객 허영만의 백반기행). The episode featured Yook Sungjae, the star of the drama 'Gyeonggo' (귀궁), as he traveled to Chuncheon with Heo Youngman.
While at Chuncheon Lake, Yook expressed his passion for fishing, stating, "I really enjoy fishing, especially freshwater fishing. I heard there are a few good spots here." When Heo Youngman asked if he had ever eaten freshwater fish, Yook replied, "No, aren’t they a bit fishy? I’ve only caught them but never eaten them."
Heo Youngman also inquired about Yook's travel experiences while being part of a group. Yook explained, "I have friends from my previous idol group, like those from Boyfriend and Teen Top, and we come here to fish together. Even if my friends aren’t that into fishing, they come along because I love it so much."
Yook further shared a personal story about his grandfather, who ran a fishing pond and was the first to import koi from Japan, eventually donating them to the country. He noted, "It started as a fish farm and grew into a large fishing area."
In addition to his fishing background, Yook attributed his good looks to his father, who often reminds him to be grateful for his genes. "My dad always tells me, 'When I was your age, I was much better looking. You should be thankful for the good genes I passed on to you.' I agree; my dad is very handsome," he said, revealing a photo of his father that caught viewers' attention.
