In a statement, Participatory Democracy asserted that both candidates have demonstrated significant disqualifications for their ministerial roles, falling short of public expectations. 

Regarding Kang Sun-woo, the organization highlighted the 'abuse of power' allegations involving her treatment of aides, which they described as a serious disqualification stemming from her misuse of her privileged position as a member of the National Assembly. They criticized her for failing to provide responsible explanations for the allegations, instead resorting to excuses and false justifications that have eroded public trust in high-ranking officials and the government. 

Additionally, they condemned her inappropriate attempts to discredit whistleblowers by labeling them as 'malicious informants' and accused of causing severe internal conflicts and attendance issues. New allegations of obstructing employment and wage arrears concerning her aides have also emerged. 

As for Lee Jin-sook, the organization pointed to allegations of research ethics violations due to suspected plagiarism in student papers and breaches of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act related to her children's early study abroad. They argued that these issues represent critical disqualifications for someone in charge of the education sector, stating that it is contradictory for a person who undermines educational fairness and legal standards to oversee educational policies.

On July 16, 2025, MONSTA X held a press conference at the Conrad Seoul in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to commemorate their 10th anniversary. The members expressed their disbelief at reaching this milestone, sharing heartfelt gratitude towards each other and their fans, known as Monbebe. They emphasized their commitment to continue striving for excellence and hinted at a special surprise for their supporters. 

Since their debut in 2015, MONSTA X has released numerous hit songs, including 'Trespass' (무단침입), 'Dramarama' (드라마라마), 'Shoot Out' (슛 아웃), 'Love Killa' (러브 킬라), 'Alligator' (엘리게이터), and 'Gambler' (갬블러), establishing themselves as a powerhouse in the K-pop performance genre. 

Member Hyungwon (형원) highlighted the importance of respecting each other's differences and supporting one another to maintain the group's unity over the years. I.M (아이엠) noted that the trust among members has deepened, making them feel more like family. Kihyun (기현) shared that their passion for music has kept them together for a decade, despite concerns about the future. 

MONSTA X has made significant strides in the global market, being the first K-pop group to participate in the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball tour three times since 2018, captivating hundreds of thousands of fans. Their first U.S. studio album, 'All About Love,' debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart, and their second English album, 'The Dreaming,' also charted for two consecutive weeks. 

The group began their military service in 2021, starting with Shownu (셔누). All members, except I.M, will complete their service by May, allowing them to reunite with fans through a solo concert. Hyungwon expressed gratitude for the members' consistent dedication during their preparations, while Shownu remarked on the deeper conversations and considerations that have developed among them over time. From July 18 to 20, MONSTA X will hold '2025 MONSTA X Connect X' at the KSPO DOME in Olympic Park, Seoul. This concert marks their first full group performance in over three years since the '2022 MONSTA X No Limit Tour in Seoul.' The members have focused on creating a setlist that reflects what Monbebe wants to see, rather than just what they want to express. Kihyun added that this concert will feature a live band for the first time, enhancing the overall experience. 

Following their Seoul concert, MONSTA X will continue 'Connect X' in Yokohama, Japan, on August 27 and 28. They are also set to make a formal comeback in September. Minhyuk (민혁) mentioned that rather than making a big deal out of their 10th anniversary, they want to work even harder moving forward. Kihyun noted that by the next decade, all members will be in their 40s, and they are excited about the new charm and depth that will come with that age. Jooheon confirmed their September comeback, focusing on the present version of MONSTA X.

MONSTA X Celebrates 10 Years with Exciting Plans Ahead

On July 16, 2025, Lee Jin-sook (이진숙), the nominee for Minister of Education, addressed controversies surrounding her children's early study abroad in the U.S. and allegations of plagiarism involving her students during a confirmation hearing at the National Assembly's Education Committee in Yeouido, Seoul. Lee expressed her sincere apologies, stating, 'As a ministerial candidate, I regret that suspicions have arisen that do not meet the public's expectations.' 

During the hearing, Democratic Party lawmaker Jin Sun-mi (진선미) questioned Lee about her children's early education abroad and the plagiarism issues, urging her to start with a candid apology. In response, Lee explained that she and her husband had spent a year in the U.S. as visiting researchers from 2001 to 2002, during which their eldest child expressed a strong desire to study there. Education Minister Nominee Lee Jin-sook Apologizes for Controversies

A young man in his twenties has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for defrauding a wealthy family out of approximately 10 billion KRW (around $8.5 million). The Daegu District Court's Criminal Division 11, presided over by Judge Lee Young-cheol, found the defendant, referred to as A, guilty of violating the Specific Economic Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act (fraud) on July 16, 2025. 

The case involved A psychologically manipulating a woman in her twenties, identified as C, whom he met through an online community in November 2023. He pretended to be in a romantic relationship with her and subsequently extorted around 10 billion KRW from her wealthy parents. 

Investigations revealed that A converted about 7 billion KRW of the stolen funds into gift cards, which are difficult to trace, and sold them to a personal gift card dealer to cash out and hide the money. Some of these funds were later transferred to another young man, referred to as B, who was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation for holding some of the stolen cash. 

The court emphasized the severity of the crime, noting the significant financial impact on the victims and the psychological damage inflicted, stating that the actions went beyond mere financial fraud to destroy the victims' dignity and well-being. The court took into account the victims' pleas for severe punishment when determining the sentence.

20대의 한 남성이 약 100억 원(약 850만 달러)을 부유한 가족으로부터 사기친 혐의로 20년형을 선고받았다. 대구지방법원 형사부 11부는 이영철 판사의 주재 하에 피고인 A가 2025년 7월 16일 특정경제범죄 가중처벌법(사기)을 위반한 혐의로 유죄 판결을 내렸다.

이 사건은 A가 2023년 11월 온라인 커뮤니티를 통해 만난 20대 여성 C를 심리적으로 조작한 것과 관련이 있다. 그는 그녀와의 연애 관계를 가장하고, 이후 그녀의 부유한 부모로부터 약 100억 원을 갈취했다.

조사 결과 A는 훔친 자금 중 약 70억 원을 추적하기 어려운 기프트 카드로 전환하고, 이를 개인 기프트 카드 판매자에게 판매하여 현금을 인출하고 돈을 숨겼다. 이 자금 중 일부는 또 다른 20대 남성 B에게 이체되었으며, B는 훔친 현금을 소지한 혐의로 1년형과 2년의 집행유예를 선고받았다.

법원은 범죄의 심각성을 강조하며 피해자에게 미친 상당한 재정적 영향과 가해진 심리적 피해를 언급하며, 이 행동이 단순한 재정적 사기를 넘어 피해자의 존엄성과 복지를 파괴했다고 밝혔다. 법원은 형량을 결정할 때 피해자들의 엄중한 처벌 요청을 고려했다.
