Yoo Ah-in Receives Suspended Sentence and Release in Drug Case
On February 18, 2025, the Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 5 announced that actor Yoo Ah-in (유아인), who was previously sentenced to prison for habitual drug use, has been granted a suspended sentence and will be released. The court imposed a one-year prison term, suspended for two years, along with a fine of 2 million won, for violations of the Narcotics Control Act, including the use of marijuana and obstruction of evidence. The judges acknowledged that the initial sentence was excessively harsh when considering the motives, methods, and circumstances surrounding the offenses. Yoo Ah-in faced charges for abusing medical propofol and other substances 181 times between September 2020 and March 2022 under the guise of cosmetic procedures. He was sentenced to one year in prison, a fine of 2 million won, and an additional forfeiture of approximately 1.5 million won in September of last year. Following the appeal, he will be released after five months of incarceration. Additionally, a co-defendant, identified as Choi, who was charged with smoking marijuana alongside Yoo Ah-in, received the same sentence of eight months in prison, suspended for two years.
