YG Entertainment Teases New Girl Group Following Baby Monster

YG Entertainment has announced plans for a new girl group, following the success of Baby Monster, as part of its 'two-track strategy' aimed at the global K-pop market. On May 26, YG released an interview video featuring Yang Hyun-suk, the chief producer, who detailed the upcoming debut plans for both Baby Monster and a new four-member girl group.

Yang revealed that YG currently has two boy groups and two girl groups preparing for their debuts, with one of the girl groups already confirmed to consist of four members. He expressed a desire to launch this new team quickly, stating that they will follow a similar strategy to Baby Monster by releasing practice videos leading up to their debut.

Starting May 28, the practice videos for the new girl group will be released sequentially, with the final moments of the videos hinting at the reveal of the first member with the message, "THE FIRST MEMBER OF YG’S NEXT GIRL GROUP. STAY TUNED."

However, Yang also mentioned that YG intends to focus on supporting Baby Monster's growth until the end of this year, suggesting that the new girl group's official debut may be postponed until next year. This strategy appears to be a form of 'pre-marketing' aimed at building a fanbase and gauging audience reactions before the group's official launch.

Reflecting on Baby Monster's success in securing a global fanbase through their pre-debut practice videos last year, it is likely that this new four-member girl group will also gain significant attention as a 'pre-rookie.' YG aims to showcase the unique talents and personalities of its artists while implementing another fan-centric debut strategy.

Additionally, YG's roadmap for the second half of the year includes new music and a world tour for BLACKPINK, a pre-release single 'HOT SAUCE' and mini-album activities for Baby Monster, as well as comeback and tour plans for TREASURE, drawing significant industry attention with the addition of new talent.
