YB Band Celebrates 30 Years with New EP 'Odyssey'

YB Band, consisting of members Yoon Do-hyun, Park Tae-hee, Kim Jin-won, and Heo Jun, is set to release their new mini-album 'Odyssey' (오디세이) on February 26, marking their 30th anniversary since debuting in 1995. During a showcase held on February 17 at Rolling Hall in Hongdae, Seoul, the band described this album as 'the future of YB.' The EP features six tracks, including the title song 'Orchid' (오키드), showcasing a significant shift towards a modern metal sound, diverging from their previous hits that leaned more towards modern rock and rock ballads.
This album also marks the band's first official activity following member Yoon Do-hyun's battle with cancer. He revealed that he was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma and has since been declared cancer-free. Appearing healthy at the showcase, he shared, 'I drew a lot of strength from metal music during the pandemic and my illness. My doctor advised against alcohol and smoking but never told me to stop listening to metal, so I kept it up,' he joked. Yoon added, 'With this album, YB will continue to pursue metal music. It’s been 30 years of living each day to the fullest, and this year, we plan to prepare a meaningful best album and tour.'
YB has been a cornerstone of the rock music scene in South Korea, with iconic tracks such as 'Sending You Off' (너를 보내고), 'Peppermint Candy' (박하사탕), 'I Am a Butterfly' (나는 나비), and 'I Will Love You' (사랑할거야). They gained immense popularity with their 2002 World Cup anthem 'Oh! Pilseung Korea' (오 필승 코리아).
The band will hold a solo concert on March 1-2 at Rolling Hall, which is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Member Park Tae-hee stated, 'This concert will mark the first voyage of YB's hybrid metal sound.'
