Yang Se-hyung Reflects on Brother Yang Se-chan's Battle with Thyroid Cancer
On the February 12 episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' (유 퀴즈 온 더 블럭), comedian Yang Se-hyung opened up about his brother Yang Se-chan's past struggle with thyroid cancer. Yang Se-chan praised his brother, stating, 'He is very sensitive and even published a poetry book.' Yang Se-hyung shared that many of his poems revolve around their father, describing him as stoic yet always supportive of his sons, while their mother was more strict.
Recalling a difficult time, Yang Se-hyung said, 'When our father was diagnosed with a terminal illness, I tried not to cry. My brother and mother were emotional, but I felt that if I cried, no one would be there to support them.' He expressed the pain of holding back tears and the struggle of making decisions after their father's passing, feeling like a child even as he approached his forties.
Yang Se-hyung also reflected on the moment he learned about Yang Se-chan's cancer diagnosis 12 years ago, saying, 'My heart sank when I heard my brother had thyroid cancer. I searched for information and videos, trying to be a source of laughter rather than just worry.' He noted that their father endured a tough battle with chemotherapy and radiation but found joy in humor, realizing that laughter was more powerful than any medication.
In a heartfelt moment, Yang Se-chan left a message for his brother, expressing that if he had chosen a different career, Yang Se-hyung wouldn't have worried about him as much. He wished for his brother to not be overly concerned about his endeavors.
Yang Se-hyung responded, 'I may be shy to say it, but I want you to know that you are the best brother in the world and a wonderful sibling who makes me a better person.' He added, 'If there is a next life, I want to be a good brother like you. I think you are the person I love the most in this world. Thank you.'
