Woman Arrested for Scamming Men Out of 400 Million Won via Dating Apps

A woman in her 40s has been arrested and transferred to prosecutors after allegedly defrauding men she met through dating apps, using marriage as bait to steal 400 million won (approximately $300,000). The Uijeongbu Police Department in Gyeonggi Province reported that the suspect, identified as A, was taken into custody on May 12.
From 2019 to this year, A is accused of promising marriage to three men and soliciting funds under the pretense of needing money for housing purchases. Investigations revealed that she engaged in multiple relationships and cohabited with these men, a practice referred to as '환승 연애' (hwanseung yeonae), or 'transfer love.'
So far, three victims have filed complaints, but authorities believe there may be more men who have not yet reported her. Police tracked A's movements across cities including Incheon, Cheonan, and Daejeon, ultimately apprehending her in an apartment in Daejeon after monitoring her taxi rides.
During questioning, A reportedly admitted to meeting men to extract money for living expenses. The police plan to continue their investigation to identify any additional victims or further crimes committed by A.
