WINNER's Song Min-ho to be Summoned by Police Over Service Duty Allegations
Song Min-ho (송민호), a member of the K-pop group WINNER, is set to be summoned by police regarding allegations of inadequate service as a social service worker. During a regular press briefing on January 6, a police official confirmed that they had conducted searches at Song's workplace and residence, securing surveillance footage and service records. Although he has not yet been interrogated, the police plan to summon him once the analysis of the collected materials is complete.
Song is accused of neglecting his duties, including failing to report to work consistently. He was classified as a 4th-grade supplementary service member during his military physical examination and began alternative service in March 2023, being discharged on December 23. Reports indicate that he suffers from bipolar disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety.
The police initiated an investigation after receiving a referral from the Military Manpower Administration on December 23, leading to Song being charged with violations of military service laws. On December 27, they searched the community service facility in Mapo District, Seoul, where he worked, to verify his attendance and work hours.
If the Military Manpower Administration finds issues with Song's service conduct during the police investigation, they may revoke his discharge and require him to serve the problematic period again, although they will not conduct their own investigation since they have referred the case to the police.
