Voice Actress and Actress Jang Mi-ja Passes Away at 84

Jang Mi-ja, a beloved voice actress and actress, has passed away, leaving many in mourning. Her funeral was held at 6 AM on January 29, 2025, with her final resting place at the Seoul City Crematorium. According to the Korean Broadcasting Actors Union and the broadcasting community, Jang Mi-ja died on January 27 due to a chronic illness, at the age of 84.
She made her debut in 1962 with the play 'Without the Pain of Breaking the Shell' and joined DBS Dong-A Broadcasting as part of its first voice acting group in 1963. Throughout her career, she appeared in numerous dramas including 'Dalmuri', 'Gaeguk', 'Independence Gate', 'Land', 'The Second Republic', 'Seoul Ttukbaegi', 'TV Grandson's Strategy', 'Meondong', 'New Generation Report - Adults Don't Know', 'Fairy Commi', 'Couple Clinic: Love and War', 'Crisis Man', 'Solyakguk's Sons', 'I Believe in Love', and 'Brilliant Days'.
Notably, she played the role of Chairman Han's mother in the 2023 series 'King the Land', earning the affectionate title of 'National Mother-in-Law' for her frequent portrayals of mother-in-law characters. Additionally, she often collaborated with her husband, Park Woong, who was also her colleague at DBS. The couple performed together in the play 'Dancing Silver Portrait' last year.
