The Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency announced on the 30th that they have arrested a 19-year-old Vietnamese student, referred to as A, on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (abandonment of a child). According to police reports, A is accused of abandoning a newborn baby in a bag inside a women's restroom at the underground shopping center near Uijeongbu Station on the afternoon of the 20th. The baby was discovered around 5 PM by a security guard who heard the infant crying. The child was promptly taken to a hospital and is currently reported to be in good health. Following the incident, police analyzed surveillance footage from the shopping center, which led them to identify and apprehend A at her residence in Uijeongbu. During questioning, A reportedly stated that she had given birth unexpectedly and felt unable to care for the child. Authorities noted that A has refused to disclose the identity of the baby's father and that investigations will continue.
