Veteran Actress Jang Mi-ja Passes Away at 84

Renowned actress Jang Mi-ja (장미자), who graced the theater and television stages for over 60 years, passed away on January 27 at the age of 84 due to health issues. A prominent figure in South Korea's theater scene, she continued to perform well into her 80s. Jang began her acting career in 1960 with the 'Production Theater Company' and took on diverse roles in plays such as 'Hwa' (화), 'The Living Double Life of Mr. K' (살아있는 이중생 각하), 'Give Me Love' (사랑을 주세요), 'Time of Humans' (인간의 시간), and 'The Golden Pond' (황금 연못).
In 1963, she joined DBS Dong-A Broadcasting as one of the first voice actors and later starred in popular dramas including 'Couple Clinic: Love and War' (부부클리닉 사랑과 전쟁), 'Land' (토지), 'TV Sun Tzu's Art of War' (TV 손자병법), 'Sons of the Herbal Medicine Store' (솔약국집 아들들), 'Brilliant Days' (눈이 부시게), and 'King the Land' (킹더랜드). She also appeared in the film 'I Am the Murderer' (내가 살인범이다). Last year, she performed alongside her husband, actor Park Woong (박웅), in the play 'Dancing Silver Portrait' (춤추는 은빛 초상화). Jang served as the president of the Gangbuk Theater Association and was the representative of the theater company 'Sangaksan' (삼각산).
