Um Tae-woong Makes a Comeback After Eight Years at 'Yadang' Premiere
Actor Um Tae-woong made a notable appearance at an official event for the first time in eight years during the showcase and VIP premiere of the film 'Yadang' on April 15 at the COEX Megabox in Seoul.
'Yadang' is a crime action film that intertwines the lives of a drug broker, a prosecutor aiming for higher status, and a detective dedicated to eradicating drug crimes, featuring actors Park Hae-joon, Ryu Kyung-soo, Chae Won-bin, Yoo Hae-jin, and Kang Ha-neul.
The event was attended by numerous stars, including Kim Sung-kyun, Gong Min-jung, Ha Seo-yoon, Lee Yu-bi, Lee Min-ho, and Ha Ji-won, who showed their support for 'Yadang.' Um Tae-woong, with a bright expression, posed for photos and expressed his excitement for the film, stating, "I heard the director has been preparing this for a long time. I expect it to be very well-made and entertaining."
Um Tae-woong previously faced controversy in 2016 when he was accused of sexually assaulting a female employee at a massage parlor. However, police investigations revealed that the accuser had colluded with the establishment's owner to extort money from him, clearing Um of the assault charges. Nonetheless, he was fined 1 million won for visiting an illicit massage parlor.
Following this incident, Um took a hiatus from his career for self-reflection. He returned to the screen in 2017 with the film 'Forklift,' but aside from the official press conference at the 21st Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, he had not made any public appearances in South Korea. He has occasionally appeared on his wife Yoon Hye-jin's YouTube channel, 'Yoon Hye-jin's What See TV,' where he has been involved in filming. Recently, he held a personal photography exhibition, marking his return in a new light.
