Trot Singer Kim Dae-sung Shares Heartbreaking Story on 'Special Report World'

On March 20, 2025, MBN's Special Report World (특종세상) featured the emotional journey of trot singer Kim Dae-sung as he continues his six-year quest to find his biological mother. Dressed in a striking red suit, Kim shared his poignant story, stating, "I lost my mother when I was young and grew up in my grandmother's care. My mother's name is this, and she is approximately 59 years old. If anyone has information, please reach out to me."

He has even prepared flyers, expressing his desperation: "I have no idea where my mother is or if she is alive. All I have is a single photo and her name, so I have no way to find her. That's why I aim to become a big star—to find my mother." He carries flyers with him during performances and while out in public, hoping that sharing his story might lead to a clue about her whereabouts.

The reason Kim has only been searching for six years is that he was unaware of his mother's existence until recently. He explained, "I didn't even know I had a mother. My father would visit once in a while during holidays, bringing treats for my siblings and me, but that was it. One night, my father came and told me that I needed to know something—that my mother was different from my siblings' mother. I cried so much; I still feel that pain, but I couldn't express it back then."

In a surprising turn of events, Kim Dae-sung received a call from his mother after his story aired on a program. However, he appeared troubled as she expressed that she could not maintain contact due to her own family commitments. Visiting his grandmother's grave, he lamented, "Grandma, I found my mother, but it hurts so much. She is married with a husband and daughter, and she said she can't tell them about me. She asked me to wait another two to three years. After waiting 42 years, can I not wait one more year? I will try to wait, Grandma," he said, shedding tears.
