tripleS Member Xinyu Sparks Controversy with 'One China' Support

Xinyu, a member of the K-pop group tripleS, has found herself at the center of controversy after expressing support for the 'One China' policy. On July 12, screenshots of a message she sent to fans via the fan communication platform fromm circulated on social media and online communities. In the message, Xinyu stated, "Macau is originally part of China," and added, "Hong Kong and Taiwan are also Chinese territory."
When some fans expressed concern over her comments, she responded, "Why would I get scolded? Did I say something wrong?" She further stated, "If you disagree, don’t use my fromm."
The 'One China' policy is a stance held by the Chinese government, asserting that mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau are inseparable parts of a single nation, with only one legitimate government.
Xinyu's remarks quickly spread online, leading to a backlash from netizens who questioned her appropriateness in making such statements while active in South Korea. Comments included, "Is it okay to say that while working in Korea?" and "Why is she making political statements to fans? I don’t understand." Many expressed disappointment, especially noting that another member of tripleS, Nien, is Taiwanese, suggesting that Xinyu's comments were thoughtless.
As of now, Xinyu's team has not released any further statements regarding the controversy. Born in 2002, Xinyu gained recognition after participating in the Mnet reality show Girls Planet 999: Girl's War in 2021 and later joined tripleS as its 15th member, continuing her active career in the group.
