Tributes Pour in for Late Trot Singer Song Dae-kwan

The late singer Song Dae-kwan has passed away, prompting heartfelt tributes from fellow trot artists who admired him. Among those expressing their sorrow are Lee Roo, the son of singer Tae Jin-ah, as well as Yang Ji-eun and Na Tae-joo, who shared their memories and condolences.

Song Dae-kwan unexpectedly left this world at around 10 AM on February 7 due to a heart attack. A representative from his team revealed, "He had been feeling unwell recently and was hospitalized. Unfortunately, he suffered a sudden heart attack and passed away." He was 79 years old.

Lee Roo opened up about his feelings, stating, "Uncle Song Dae-kwan, who has always treated me kindly and warmly since I was a child, has left us so suddenly. It feels so unreal and my heart aches." He continued, "Seeing my father, who lost a lifelong friend and brother, frantically making calls in his grief, is heartbreaking. I really wanted to see them perform together on stage again."

He added, "Uncle, I pray that you find eternal peace there. It was an honor to serve as your nephew."

Yang Ji-eun shared a photo of Song Dae-kwan and wrote, "Song Dae-kwan sunbae (senior), who always treated his juniors warmly and kindly. I hope you find peace there. My deepest condolences to the deceased."

Na Tae-joo expressed his sorrow, saying, "Sunbae, I cannot hide my sadness, but I hope you rest comfortably there. My deepest condolences to the deceased."

In an interview with OSEN, fellow singer Hyun-sook reflected on Song Dae-kwan, saying, "He was always a warm person. Whenever we met, he would pat my back and encourage me to work hard, which was incredibly uplifting. Hearing of his sudden passing left me in shock, and I cried for a long time."

Bae Il-ho also shared his grief, stating, "Hearing the news of Song Dae-kwan's passing feels so empty and surreal. He was someone I was very close to, and as a direct junior, I am always grateful to him. It’s so tragic that he left us so suddenly. I feel sorry that he was always busy and didn’t get to enjoy many happy moments in life. I heard the news in the morning, and I couldn’t eat until the afternoon."

The funeral for Song Dae-kwan is being held at the Seoul National University Hospital funeral hall, with the viewing scheduled for February 8 at 1:30 PM and the funeral service on February 9 at 11 AM. He will be laid to rest at the Seoul Memorial Park.
