Tragic Water Accidents in Jeju Leave One Dead and Another in Critical Condition

On July 25, 2025, a series of water-related incidents in Jeju resulted in one fatality and another individual being transported to the hospital in critical condition. According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters, the first report came in at 2:36 PM from Sehwa Port in Gujwa-eup, where a tourist, identified as A, in their 40s, was reported to have drowned. A was rescued by nearby surfers but was found to be in cardiac arrest. Emergency services deployed a medical helicopter to transport A to a hospital in Jeju City, but unfortunately, A passed away during treatment.

Shortly after, at 2:40 PM, another report was received from Gwakji Beach in Aewol-eup, indicating that a person had also drowned. After a search lasting about ten minutes, a 30-year-old individual, referred to as B, was located in the water. B was also in cardiac arrest and was airlifted to a hospital in Jeju City within nine minutes.

Earlier that day, at approximately 2:25 PM, a report came in from Taewoo Beach in Namwon-eup, stating that a person in their 50s, identified as C, was being swept away by waves. Fortunately, nearby beachgoers were able to successfully rescue C using a life buoy.

These incidents highlight the dangers of water activities and the importance of safety measures while enjoying the ocean.
