Tragic Story of Lotto Winner Who Died Alone Within a Year

On July 1, during an episode of the YouTube channel '엄튜브' hosted by anchor 엄성섭, Kim Sae-byeol, a representative of a bereavement service, shared a poignant story about a man who won second place in the lottery but tragically passed away alone less than a year later. Kim recounted her surprise upon discovering that the deceased had won 65 million KRW (approximately $54,000) in the lottery. Among the deceased's belongings was a certificate from the NongHyup Bank indicating the receipt of this substantial sum. She noted, 'I was astonished to see how much cash he had received, and the bank's wrapping for the bills was longer than I expected.'
Despite his lottery win, Kim expressed her concern about why the man had lived such a difficult life. She revealed that he spent his winnings on purchasing lottery tickets worth 2 million KRW weekly, as well as betting on horse racing and sports betting. Attempts to contact the deceased's children were met with rejection; they refused to claim the body, stating, 'He is not our father. He is our biological father, but he never supported us. Our mother raised us alone.'
Kim reflected on the situation, suggesting that if the man had used his winnings to support his children, he might not have faced such a lonely death. She concluded with a somber thought, questioning whether winning the lottery truly brought him happiness in life or in death.
