Tragic Revelation: MBC Weathercaster Oh Yoanna's Suicide Linked to Workplace Bullying

The tragic news of MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna's suicide, which occurred in September 2024, has recently come to light, revealing that she took her own life due to alleged workplace bullying. On January 27, reports emerged that a document believed to be her suicide note was found on her unlocked phone, detailing her experiences of harassment at work.

According to the note, a fellow weathercaster who joined MBC before her had made false reports and shifted the blame onto Oh. She also mentioned being called back to the office after hours under the pretext of needing to be 'taught'. Despite informing four MBC officials about her situation prior to her death, no significant action was taken.

Following the news, an online post titled 'Oh Yoanna's Suicide Note and Some KakaoTalk Messages' surfaced, containing excerpts from what is believed to be her note. In it, Oh expressed her desire for her funeral to be a joyful outdoor party, asking attendees to wear dresses or nice clothes and enjoy finger foods while laughing together.

She lamented, 'Living is so exhausting,' and expressed her frustration at not being understood or being unable to fully embrace her passion for her work. Oh also mentioned the physical pain she endured and her discomfort in burdening those who loved her.

In a poignant statement, she remarked, 'You said all human relationships are like that? Then live like that. Keep deleting uncomfortable relationships.' This appears to reference individuals who caused her distress.

Additionally, the post included medical records indicating that Oh had sought psychiatric help due to feelings of injustice and anger stemming from her work environment. Conversations with a senior colleague revealed a pattern of reprimands, with Oh repeatedly apologizing.

Friends of Oh have begun to speak out, tagging her Instagram account and demanding accountability from MBC and the alleged perpetrators, stating that despite her efforts to report the bullying, both the company and the individuals involved ignored her pleas.

The names of the two weathercasters suspected of bullying Oh have also been revealed by the YouTube channel 가로세로연구소, leading to a flood of comments demanding explanations on their social media. However, neither the accused nor MBC has issued any statements regarding the situation.

Oh Yoanna joined MBC as a weathercaster in May 2021 but tragically passed away at the age of 28 in September 2024.
