Tragic Incident at Liverpool's Premier League Victory Parade
A shocking incident occurred during Liverpool's 2024-2025 Premier League victory parade when a vehicle drove into a crowd of fans. According to the BBC, the accident took place on Water Street in Liverpool on May 27, resulting in dozens of injuries. Reports indicate that 27 individuals, including four children, were transported to hospitals, with two of them (one child) suffering serious injuries. The Merseyside Police have arrested a 53-year-old white male from Liverpool as a suspect.
BBC journalist Matt Cole, who was present at the parade, described the scene: "The Liverpool team bus had just passed, and as fireworks celebrated the victory, a blue vehicle surged into the crowd. At first, it seemed like the crowd was making way for the car, but it showed no intention of slowing down. Suddenly, it accelerated, and screams erupted." He added that a group of men chased the vehicle, banging on its side and throwing objects, with the rear window already shattered.
Dan O'Gunshekin from the BBC also recounted, "Suddenly, many people began to surround a car next to an ambulance. Just as I was wondering what was happening, the vehicle reversed, pushing people away, and then sped into the crowd. People scattered like bowling pins." He noted that a place filled with celebration and joy was abruptly transformed into one of fear and chaos, describing it as a scene from hell.
Live footage from the BBC showed the chaotic aftermath on Water Street, with police cordoning off the area, reflecting the devastation of the incident.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to the news, stating, "A terrible thing has happened," and ordered emergency relief efforts and a swift response. The Merseyside Police are investigating the motive behind the suspect's actions but have stated that they do not classify the incident as a terrorist act. Liverpool FC released a statement promising full support for emergency services.
