Tragic Gas Leak Incident at Hyundai Steel Plant Claims Employee's Life
A tragic incident occurred at the Hyundai Steel plant in Dangjin, South Korea, where a gas leak led to the death of a 59-year-old employee, identified as A. On December 12, at approximately 7:42 PM, colleagues found A collapsed and unresponsive, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
A was responsible for overseeing gas transfer equipment and had gone to inspect gas piping installed outside the plant around 5 PM that day. When he did not return after his shift ended, coworkers went to search for him and discovered him in a state of cardiac arrest. The gas piping A was inspecting is used to transport gases produced during the steel manufacturing process.
Authorities are investigating the incident, with police planning to request an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, which is suspected to be asphyxiation. They will also examine whether Hyundai Steel violated workplace safety regulations and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. Labor authorities are concurrently investigating potential violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
A police spokesperson stated, 'We will request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to confirm the cause of A's death and verify compliance with safety regulations.'
