Traditional Liquor and Family Cuisine Festival to Take Place in Andong

From June 20 to 22, 2025, the '2025 Gyeongbuk Traditional Liquor & Family Cuisine Cultural Festival' will be held at Wolyeong Park in Andong, Gyeongbuk Province. This festival, now in its fourth year, aims to promote Gyeongbuk's traditional liquors and family dishes as new tourist attractions. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste Andong Soju and other representative traditional liquors from the region, as well as dishes from 16 local family houses (종가). Additionally, traditional liquors from countries participating in the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju this October will also be showcased.
The festival will feature various experiential programs, including a 'Family Cuisine Cooking Class' where participants can learn recipes from the wives (종부) of the 16 family houses and sample the dishes. Other activities include traditional liquor brewing experiences, hanbok etiquette lessons, a cocktail competition among bartenders, a 'Liquor Roundtable' for international students to discuss alcohol, a 'Liquor Talk Show' to answer questions about traditional liquors, and a traditional liquor auction.
Kim Byeong-gon, the Director of the Culture, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, 'We aim to develop traditional liquors and family cuisine, which are cultural assets of Gyeongbuk, into competitive tourism products.'
