Top Stars Show Support at Presidential Impeachment Rally

Prominent figures in the South Korean entertainment industry, including singer IU (아이유) and actor Choi Min-sik (최민식), are publicly expressing their beliefs in response to the presidential impeachment rally.

IU and Girls' Generation's Yuri (유리) have been actively supporting fans and citizens braving the cold winter weather by providing food. On December 13, IU's agency, Edam Entertainment (이담엔터테인먼트), announced on their official fan cafe that they prepared food and hot packs for fans attending the rally, hoping to warm their hands holding light sticks (아이크). The agency encouraged fans to visit designated bakeries and eateries in Yeouido to enjoy the provisions.

In a gesture of gratitude, IU decided to provide 200 pieces of bread, 200 drinks, 100 rice cakes, and 200 bowls of soup for fans. The agency specified that anyone could receive the food by simply stating they are a member of her fandom, Uaena (유애나). They also noted that supplies would be limited and updates would be provided if items ran out.

Yuri, who is associated with the rally's anthem 'Into the New World' (다시 만난 세계), also joined in the support. She communicated with fans through a private messaging platform, urging them to eat kimbap and stay safe. Additionally, she pre-ordered a large quantity of kimbap from a nearby shop for fans attending the rally, allowing anyone with a 'Wish Stick' (소원봉) to claim their share.

On the same day, Choi Min-sik received the Best Actor award at the 25th Busan Film Critics Awards. He expressed gratitude for concluding the year in Busan and reflected on the frustrations of recent days, acknowledging the struggles faced by the younger generation holding light sticks at the rally. He apologized on behalf of the older generation for the difficult circumstances they are witnessing.

Singer Lee Seung-hwan (이승환) also took to the stage at the impeachment rally, performing live in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido. He sang three songs, including a modified version of his lyrics that directly referenced the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol (윤석열).

Lee stated, 'I never thought I would be on such a stage again after the protests in 2016 and 2019. However, I believe that how we live is more important than what we become.' He expressed hope for a future where such protests are no longer necessary.

Singer Jang Beom-jun (장범준) also shared a message of support for citizens facing the cold during the impeachment vote, posting a video of his song 'If War Breaks Out' (전쟁이 나면) that he created after receiving an emergency disaster text message. He emphasized the importance of peace and expressed gratitude to those enduring the cold at the rally.
