Tom Cruise Returns to Korea for 'Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning' Premiere

On May 8, Tom Cruise made a highly anticipated return to South Korea, expressing his gratitude to fans during the red carpet event for his latest film, 'Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning,' which is set to release on May 17. This marks Cruise's 12th visit to Korea, making him one of the most frequent Hollywood stars to visit the country. At a press conference held at Lotte Cinema in Jamsil, he shared, "I enjoy working seven days a week because it gives me the chance to entertain you all."
Cruise, who arrived in Korea the previous day, is promoting the film over a brief two-day schedule. He discussed the thrilling action sequences in 'Final Reckoning,' stating, "I feel scared when I take on extreme action, but I enjoy that fear. Movies are not just a job for me; they are who I am." The press conference also featured director Christopher McQuarrie, who has been a key collaborator since the fifth installment of the series, and actor Simon Pegg.
As the first film in the series that Cruise produced, 'Final Reckoning' showcases his deep affection for the franchise. The film features breathtaking underwater and aerial action scenes that are sure to elevate viewers' heart rates. One particularly stunning sequence involves a fight against fierce winds at 2,400 kilometers above South Africa's majestic mountain ranges, filmed without CGI, making it almost unbelievable. In another intense underwater escape scene, Cruise narrowly avoids a torpedo while only wearing his underwear. In a previous interview with People magazine, he revealed his secret to preparing for action scenes: a hearty breakfast consisting of sausages, ten eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, and drinks.
Upon arriving at Gimpo Airport via private jet, Cruise opted for a Kia Carnival, a staff vehicle, instead of the luxurious Maybach prepared by the distributor. He later visited a chicken restaurant and a nearby café in Mapo-gu, where he was spotted enjoying coffee with his sister, Cass, and McQuarrie, taking time to pose for photos with fans who recognized him.
When asked if this eighth installment would be the final chapter of the 'Mission: Impossible' series, Cruise left the door open for future projects, stating, "This film is the pinnacle of the 30-year journey of the 'Mission' series. Please enjoy it in theaters."
