Three High School Students Arrested for Vandalizing Presidential Election Posters
Three high school students have been apprehended by the Sejong Southern Police for allegedly vandalizing posters related to the 21st presidential election. The police reported on May 21 that the students, including a teenager identified as A, are being investigated for violating the Public Official Election Act. The incident occurred on May 17 around 5 PM in Boram-dong, Sejong City, where the students reportedly damaged posters of two candidates using a cigarette lighter. Following a citizen's report, the police arrested the trio the next morning at their high school. During questioning, they claimed their actions were just a prank. In light of recent incidents, including a case where an elementary school student damaged election posters with an umbrella, the police have urged the Sejong Education Office and local schools to provide guidance to students. A police spokesperson emphasized that vandalizing election posters is a serious crime that undermines fair elections and stated that they will actively respond to any illegal activities related to the election.
