The Return of the Acclaimed Play 'Red Leaves' Featuring Kim Kang-woo After Eight Years

The play '붉은 낙엽' (Red Leaves) is set to make its return as part of the National Theater's 2024-2025 repertoire season. Originally premiered in 2021, 'Red Leaves' has garnered numerous prestigious awards, including the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the 14th Korea Theater Awards, the Best Play and Best New Director at the 58th Dong-A Theater Awards, and multiple accolades at the 42nd Seoul Theater Festival, such as the Excellence Award and the Performing Arts Award.
Based on the novel of the same name by renowned American mystery writer Thomas H. Cook, the story unfolds in a tranquil American town where Eric Moore's son, Jimmy Moore, becomes a prime suspect in the disappearance of a neighboring girl, Amy. The narrative delves into themes of suspicion, inner turmoil, and the disintegration of an ordinary family.
According to the production company Library Company, 'Red Leaves' will be staged at the Daloreum Theater in the National Theater of Korea from January 8 to March 1, 2025.
The role of Eric Moore, a photographer who runs Wesley Photography and seeks the truth behind the disappearance, will be portrayed by Kim Kang-woo, Park Wan-kyu, and Ji Hyun-jun. Notably, Kim Kang-woo returns to the stage after an eight-year hiatus since his performance in 'Hamlet - The Play.'
The character of Jimmy Moore, whose actions disrupt the family's peace, will be alternately played by Lee Yoo-jin, Jang Seok-hwan, and Choi Jung-woo. Vanessa Moore, Jimmy's mother and Eric's wife, will be portrayed by Kim Won-jung, while the skeptical older brother Warren Moore will be played by Kwon Tae-geon.
This production is a collaboration between the National Theater and Library Company, featuring the directorial vision of Lee Jun-woo and the writing of Kim Do-young, who have previously worked together on productions such as 'Crystal Night' and 'Moo-sun 6 Years.'
