The Ongoing Pain of Gu Jun-yeop After His Wife's Passing

Gu Jun-yeop's heartache following the loss of his beloved wife, Seo Hee-won, seems unending. On March 7, Seo Hee-won's mother shared a poignant message online, advising to 'keep sorrow to oneself,' along with a song that her daughter had sung before her untimely death. Gu has previously expressed his feelings of emptiness, stating, 'There’s a hole in my heart. How can I fill it?' and 'I believe justice cannot be restored. I support the day I go to the battlefield.'

Recently, a message he posted, 'He is a liar. I am a fool,' sparked controversy. Reports suggested that the 'he' referred to Gu Jun-yeop, not his brother-in-law Wang Su-bi, which raised eyebrows, especially after Gu publicly stated he would relinquish his share of his wife's estate to her mother. This led to speculation about his mother-in-law feeling deceived.

Seo Hee-won, a well-known Taiwanese actress famous for her role in the Taiwanese version of Boys Over Flowers, was married to Chinese businessman Wang Su-bi, with whom she had two children. However, they divorced in 2021 amid various rumors. The following year, she reunited with Gu Jun-yeop after 30 years and started a new family. Tragically, she passed away on February 2 while traveling in Japan due to pneumonia caused by the flu.

Her sudden death has drawn attention to her estate, valued at approximately 120 billion KRW. Reports indicate that the family has agreed to divide the estate equally among Gu and the two children, each receiving one-third. However, since the children are minors, their biological father, Wang Su-bi, will act as their legal representative until they turn 18. This situation has led to speculation that Seo Hee-won's mother is publicly mourning her daughter while lamenting her own circumstances.

Gu Jun-yeop has stated, 'All the assets are what Hee-won worked hard to gather to protect her beloved family, so I intend to give all rights to my mother-in-law.' He also mentioned plans to legally protect his children's rights until they reach adulthood to prevent any exploitation. Additionally, it has been reported that Gu and Wang Su-bi have agreed to share the responsibility of repaying the mortgage on the house they lived in together, which is valued at 460 million TWD (approximately 20.2 billion KRW), with monthly payments of 1 million TWD (around 43.95 million KRW).
