The Late Kim Sae-ron's Final Film 'Guitar Man' Set to Premiere
The film 'Guitar Man' (directed by Kim Jong-myeon and Lee Sun-jung), which serves as the final work of the late actress Kim Sae-ron, is set to be released. This poignant musical film, which tells the story of a genius guitarist's journey through loss and love while seeking hope through music, will have its first audience encounter on May 21 with a press screening and a special guest event.
The protagonist, Gi-cheol (played by Lee Sun-jung), is a talented guitarist living a nomadic life due to financial struggles. After being introduced by a friend, he joins the live club band 'Volcano' as their guitarist, where he bonds with the band members, including keyboardist Yu-jin (played by Kim Sae-ron), in their quest for hope amidst a harsh reality.
'Guitar Man' has garnered significant attention due to the tragic circumstances surrounding Kim Sae-ron's passing. Currently, a crowdfunding campaign is underway on Tumblbug to support a special screening of the film.
Gi-cheol is portrayed as a misfit struggling to adapt to a rapidly changing world, building emotional walls that push people away with his cynicism and indifference. In contrast, Yu-jin and the members of Volcano consistently show him genuine kindness and warmth, gradually melting the icy barriers he has erected. While the film seems poised for a happy ending, Gi-cheol's past mistakes threaten to plunge him back into a cold reality. The film maintains suspense about the nature of Gi-cheol's past and the evolving relationships between him, Yu-jin, and the Volcano members.
The film's original soundtrack (OST), titled 'A World Without Pain,' was released on April 28 and features lyrics, composition, and vocals by Lee Sun-jung, who plays Gi-cheol. The song aims to provide comfort and hope to those enduring difficult times, with heartfelt messages such as, "Life isn't easy," and "I hope you find happiness in a world without pain."
The music video for the OST includes clips from the film, featuring Kim Sae-ron, which has sparked emotional reactions from fans. Many have expressed their sorrow over her passing, with comments like, "I hope Kim Sae-ron is happy there," and "I miss seeing her in such a good light."
Lee Sun-jung, who developed a friendship with Kim Sae-ron during filming, remarked, "Kim Sae-ron brought so much bright energy to the set and was incredibly passionate. I hoped for her triumphant return, but like the title of the OST suggests, I wish for her to be happy in a world without pain. All proceeds from the 'Guitar Man' OST will be donated to the Korea Life Respect Hope Center." The OST and its music video are currently available on various music streaming platforms.
