The Boyz's Sunwoo Issues Apology Amid Controversy

Sunwoo, a member of the K-pop group The Boyz, has publicly apologized following a controversy regarding his behavior towards a security guard. On April 15, he took to Instagram to express regret over his actions, stating, "My personal thoughts and irrational behavior have distorted the intent of what I wanted to convey. I apologize for not being mindful of my words and actions, which may have led some to feel uncomfortable, despite my lack of such intentions."

He continued, "I do not wish to simply seek forgiveness or express my grievances. If I appeared that way to someone, I must first acknowledge that I could have been perceived as such. I will prove to you and to myself that I am not that kind of person, and that I value relationships and emotions between people, even if it takes time."

Sunwoo addressed those who criticized him for his immaturity and those who felt hurt by his actions, saying, "This message is for those who have pointed out my shortcomings and for anyone who has been hurt by my behavior, as well as for all those who support me. I hope my feelings are conveyed without any misunderstanding. I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt discomfort and pain due to my immature responses."

The controversy arose when Sunwoo was seen dropping his AirPods and exclaiming, "My AirPods!" He then picked them up from a security guard without offering any words of thanks. Initially, he defended himself on a fan communication platform, claiming he had said "thank you" without bowing his head while receiving the AirPods. However, the situation reignited when fellow idol and actress Nana commented on the video, saying, "Looks like you need to be scolded."

In response to the renewed backlash, Sunwoo expressed frustration, stating, "While I was trying to reflect on how I appeared, it’s scary to be criticized for a few seconds of video and for the harsh comments from people."

The agency representing The Boyz also released a statement, apologizing for not managing the situation properly and acknowledging that the issue was a result of their oversight. They confirmed that Sunwoo is reflecting on aspects he had not previously recognized.
